Drop-in Open Water
Swimming Workouts
Beginning on June 7, start your Tuesdays with Coach Andrew and a maximum of 12 swimmers for a HIIT-focused, group open water swimming workout in one of three spectacular outdoor settings: Kitsilano Beach, Locarno Beach and Jericho Beach. Develop better swimming technique under the watchful eyes of a swim coach in an open water environment.
Who:
All levels of swimmers from beginners to competitive.
When:
Tuesdays from 6:30 (sharp) -7:30am. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to allow for parking, wetsuit application, coach’s instruction and dryland warm-up.
Where:
For variety’s sake, swim sessions will be held at 1 of 3 locations: Kitsilano Beach, Locarno Beach and Jericho Beach. The next-session location will be announced the week before.
What to expect:
Other than a refreshing start to your day, expect a 5 minute dryland warm-up; a 10 minute in-the-water-warm-up mixed with technique drills; a 30 minute main set and 5 minute cool-down, for a total of 50-60 minutes. We’ll be focusing on varied intervals, technique, beach starts, drafting, sighting, swimming a straight line. Coach Andrew is always on his paddle board to better observe and facilitate.
What to bring:
wetsuit, goggles, 2 swim caps, hand paddles
Cancellations:
Will occur only if the conditions are bad (wind/chop/rain/cold) or unsafe (lightning).
